The MGA is announcing changes to the MGA Board.  With the retirement of Ed Jackson from the President’s position earlier this year, Chris Martin was officially  appointed MGA President and relieved of his responsibilities as Tournament Chairman.  Tom McCarthy, formally an outstanding member of the Tournament Committee, was appointed the new Tournament ChairmanJeff Rohe  has retired from his officer position as Handicap Chairman and will be replaced by a member of the Handicap Committee, Ron Morehead.  The Officers would like to thank both Ed and Jeff for their service and tremendous contribution to the board and the MGA community.   All changes described above will take effect immediately.

 

The Officers would also like to remind you that all MGA Officer positions will be up for election later this year, and the newly elected Board will assume position in January of 2010.

May and June will bring our third and fourth Majors of 2009, the President’s Cup and the Match Play Championship.  Be sure to sign up for these events to earn your opportunity to become a Major Champion.  The Thursday Night Scramble continues to be a huge success with an average of over 28 players per event.  Whether you are a new member or a cagy veteran, this weekly event is always a great time.  In August, the MGA and our great staff at Heathrow have an unbelievable event planned, stay tuned for important details.

MGA Officer Changes

The Handicap Committee is working to establish  a systemic link with GHIN.  The reporting link would enable the Committee to more easily review rounds posted versus rounds played.  We expect this link to be up within a few months.  Please remember to post all of your scores and apply Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) as the Committee will be performing a review later this month.

Text Box: MGA Match Play Championship Sign-up Deadline

Congratulations to Brannon Rue and his guest Jamie Ricks who outlasted the competition in the Shoot Out to become the 2009 MGA Member Guest Champions. 

 

Finishing in second place was the team of David Goldman and Bryan Vinyard, and in third place was the team of John Loscalzo and Mike Dehlinger.

The Tournament Committee strongly encourages all MGA Members to review  the new Tournament Eligibility Requirements for 2009.  These requirements are described in detail on our website, and include requirements for:

 

· Basic Tournament Eligibility

· Major Tournament Eligibility

· New Mixed Tee Competition Rules

 

These new rules cover such items as the number of required posted rounds before certain tournaments in order to be eligible to play, and how which set of tees you will play from are determined in events with Mixed Tee Competition.

The Finance Committee continues to work with the club to reduce costs and determine the most appropriate way to spend our funds.  During the 2009 Member Guest, the club made significant contributions to lower our food and beverage costs, and helped facilitate the incorporation of several outside sponsors during the event. 

 

We remain on committed to our 2009 budget and to date have no significant deviations from the budget to report at this time.

Congratulations to Martin Summers who won this year’s MGA Club Championship.  Finshing second was Chad Ibbotson. 

 

Congratulations to both Sonny Moss and Bill Wehner, our 2009 Senior and Super Senior Club Champions.  And congratulations to our 2009 Junior Club Champion, Owen Curry.

 

Our website, HeathrowMGA.com took over 18,000 hits during the championship weekend, and our tournament sponsors each received over 400 views each.
